United States Midterm Elections
Washington DC & New York, USA - November 6, 2018
Americans goes to the polls on November 6th. There’s no doubt that President Trump has polarised opinion since coming to power two years ago but this is a first chance to see what Americans really think of the Trump presidency so far.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be contested.
Democrats need to pick up 23 seats in the House and two seats in the Senate to regain control of those chambers, but the Republicans will no doubt put up a strong fight between now and when polls open.
While Trump is popular with Republicans, opinion polls show his general approval hovering in the low 40s percent overall.
Many key political battles of the midterms will be fought in swing House districts and big battleground states where loyalty to Trump is not necessarily a badge of honour.
